Robbie Williams

“Millennium” was the lead single from Robbie Williams‘ album I’ve Been Expecting You.

The song heavily samples the title song from You Only Live Twice (written by John Berry and performed by Nancy Sinatra), but it was re-recorded in a different key instead of the song’s direct sample due to reasons of cost. For this reason, the music video has Williams pretending to be James Bond.

It became Robbie’s first number-one single in the United Kingdom and peaked at #77 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States.

Throughout the song Williams can be heard rapping the distinctive intro (and part of the chorus) of “The Message”, the iconic 1982 single by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, as well as mimicking that track’s laughter.
