Stop, Look, Listen (to Your Heart)

Stop, Look, Listen (to Your Heart)

Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye

“Stop, Look, Listen (To Your Heart)” is a soul ballad written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed and originally recorded by the Stylistics for their 1971 debut album.

Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross recorded this version for their Motown duets album, Diana & Marvin in 1973. The song regained traction in 2001 after being released on the soundtrack for Bridget Jones’s Diary. It was also sampled in Ja Rule and Ashanti’s global 2002 hit, “Mesmerize”.

Of particular note is Marvin Gaye’s use of falsetto to echo Diana Ross’s soprano.
