“I Love U” is an upbeat song that takes in the perspective of a person who broke up with their romantic partner due to problems that the other person faced in a long-distance relationship. The lyrics of the track go on to show how the person in the song’s perspective feels downhearted and wants to be back with their significant other again.

While The Chainsmokers successfully kept their promise of incorporating more electronic sounding tracks into their fourth album, So Far So Good, “I Love U” slightly steps back from their EDM sound and takes a more pop-esque approach, similar to some of their biggest hits such as “Paris” and “Closer”.

“I Love U” was first teased in this TikTok on March 19th 2022, revealing a snippet of the first verse. The track continued to be teased through TikTok again and through The Chainsmokers' Instagram stories. The song was officially put out with the release of So Far So Good on May 13th, 2022.

With many people wondering where the Japanese sample comes from, it was eventually found by a user in The Chainsmokers' Discord. The sample originates from a character voiced by Ayane Sakura in a Japanese role-playing gacha game, “Granblue Fantasy”.
