Hold On

En Vogue

“Hold On” is En Vogue’s first single from their 1990 debut album Born To Sing. The single hit radio on February 23, 1990 and went on to become one of the most popular songs of the year. This platinum single hit #1 on the Billboard R&B and Hot Dance charts, peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached Top 5 chart positions in multiple countries. The song won a Billboard Music Award for R&B Single of the Year, a Soul Train Music Award for Best Single by a Duo/Group, and nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance.

The song starts with the first verse and hook of the song “Who’s Lovin' You” being sung a cappella by the group. The song was written by Smokey Robinson and originally recorded in 1960 by his group The Miracles but the song was popularized by the 1969 version performed by The Jackson 5.
