Afrika Baby Bam is a hip-hop artist who is notably part of the Jungle Brothers, who were affiliated with the Native Tongues collective. He attended the same high-school as fellow group member Mike Gee in the mid-1980’s. DJ Sammy B was a family friend of Mike Gee and remained in the group until 1997. His main musical influences are: Kool DJ Red Alert, Rakim, Spoonie G, T La Rock, Kool Moe Dee, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Cold Crush Brothers, Public Enemy, Jimmy Spicer, Kurtis Blow, Roy Ayers, Idris Muhammad, Grover Washington Jr., and MC Lisa Lee. Africa Baby Bam cites the Jungle Brothers first LP, Straight Out the Jungle(1988) as his favorite album since it is reminiscent of simpler times during the golden era of 90’s hip-hop in NYC.
