Oneohtrix Point Never

Artist

Daniel Lopatin, better known by his stage name Oneohtrix Point Never (pronounced “one-oh-tricks”), is an experimental electronic producer and composer from Wayland, Massachusetts, US. A lead pioneer in the creation of the vaporwave subgenre, Lopatin has made long-lasting impacts on the contemporary electronic scene, and the internet culture surrounding it. Lopatin’s 2010 project under the alias Chuck Person, Chuck Person’s Eccojams Vol. 1, is often cited as the album that birthed vaporwave.

Lopatin would begin to sport the Oneohtrix Point Never moniker in 2007, a verbal play on the name of the Boston FM radio station Magic 106.7. Betrayed in the Octagon would be the first instalment in a trilogy of full-length albums, eventually compiled into 2009’s Rifts.

Morphing anywhere between ambient, plunderphonics, glitch, and industrial, OPN’s innovative sound has landed him collaborations with artists like Tim Hecker, The Weeknd, FKA twigs, and film director duo Benny and Josh Safdie. He’s performed in venues ranging from clubs to the MOMA and the ICA. Lopatin is also one half of the duo Ford & Lopatin, alongside Joel Ford.

In 2011, Daniel created the Software Recording Co. label, under which he and fellow labelmates like Autre Ne Veut and Suicideyear would release music. The label would later shut down in 2016.
