Wake up, F1lthy

Richard Ortiz (born February 1, 1992), known professionally as F1LTHY, is a record producer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His “Wake up, F1LTHY” production tag signifies his gritty, dark, and near ethereal trap sound, which has been coupled with the vocals of artists such as Playboi Carti, Sickboyrari, Lofty305, Bladee, Five Finger Posse, and WiFiGawd. He is a pioneer of the “tread” subgenre of production, featuring typically dark, aggressive samples with droning basslines.

Around 2012, F1LTHY began his foray into beat-making, inspired by the sound of the underground at the time. Noted influences on his style are SpaceGhostPurrp, Metro Zu, and Robert Scroeder.

Working with local artists Dizzy Santana and Lil Zubin as well as his younger brother Oogie Mane, F1LTHY breakthrough finally came in early 2014, after coincidentally meeting Snob Mobb, who introduced Sickboyrari to his work.

F1LTHY gained mainstream recognition for his work on Playboi Carti’s 2020 album Whole Lotta Red, which peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. He notably produced the opening track “Rockstar Made,” as well as standout tracks such as “Stop Breathing,” “Punk Monk,” and “New Tank.”

Along with Loosie Man, F1LTHY is a co-founder of Working on Dying, a creative umbrella for music production and clothing. F1LTHY is also part of the creative roster for Playboi Carti’s label, Opium.

Of course, Lil B. 21 Savage, he’s hot. Soulja Boy would be tight. But I feel like I don’t even have to reach out, too much. It’s moving forward with everyone I’m working with at the moment.
