The third single off of The Chainsmokers' fourth album, So Far So Good, “Riptide” is a cheery future bass track about adolescent love which sees the duo return to the future bass sound that first made them popular. The track was first teased via an Instagram post on February 22nd, 2022. With the lyrics that the snippet gave, the track was dubbed as “Live It With You” by fans until a TikTok was posted on March 18th, 2022 confirming the title of the song to be “Riptide.”

Although the majority of the lyrics are sung by The Chainsmokers’ member Drew Taggart, frequent collaborator and songwriter Emily Warren makes a return as a background vocalist and a co-writer for the track. Within The Chainsmokers' discography, Emily Warren was last featured on “Side Effects”, which was released on July 27th, 2018.

Similar to when “High” was performed live at SUMMIT at One Vanderbilt and teased “iPad” at the end, The Chainsmokers did the same again with their live performance of “iPad” at SUMMIT at One Vanderbilt. In this performance however, the intro of “Riptide” was played at the end, which hinted towards that song being the third single before the release of the album.

On April 20th, 2022, The Chainsmokers gave an early announcement in their Discord server that “Riptide” was the next single to be released on April 22th, 2022 before posting the information to Twitter on April 21st, 2022.

On the day before worldwide release day, the duo confirmed via Twitter that Chris Martin of Coldplay helped write the lyrics to the track. This marks the first collaboration between Martin and The Chainsmokers since the 2017 release of their massive hit “Something Just Like This”.
